At St Margaret Mary’s Catholic Junior School, we pride ourselves on ensuring that we facilitate children’s learning about ‘the best that has been thought and said’. This is not only achieved through their curriculum journey and the pastoral support they receive, but also by providing children with a full Cultural Capital. Our Cultural Capital offer ensures that children have their experiences broadened whilst they are in our care, so that they will be opened to a new world of learning and wonder. Children will gain essential knowledge, skills and experiences to prepare them for their future success.

Our curriculum, our SPOTLIGHT offer and our Personal Development Curriculum (SHINE) all focus on children’s SMSC and we ensure that all children, including the most disadvantaged, have access to opportunities in and outside of the classroom resulting in the best school experience!

Our commitment to children’s cultural capital:

Lack of money will never be an obstacle for any child in our school wanting to enhance their cultural capital either through taking part in a residential, school trip or after school club.

We have invested in technology to help children learn (every child in our school is provided with their own Chromebook).

Each year, children will organise and host a charity coffee morning.

Every year, all children have the opportunity to take part in a sporting event, perform on the stage, use their oracy, go on trips and take part in transition projects, develop their love of reading, work with independence, live out our key gospel values, learn how to look after their own health and wellbeing and be part of a team.

Our SPOTLIGHT enrichment offer encourages children to access additional activities and helps them to ignite their passions.

Our bespoke SHINE curriculum doesn’t just provide children with essential knowledge and skills they need for life. but also exposes them to real people who they can draw inspiration from and learn from, SHINE also provides the children with experiences to develop life skills (such as learning how to give basic first, how to ride their bike safely and how to run a business).

In our school, we believe that our Cultural Capital offer gives children power: it will help children achieve their long term goals and become successful as they move into the next phase of their education and as they enter the world of work.
