PE

PE 2.pngOur PE curriculum will aim to inspire and encourage all children to succeed in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Children have two PE lessons weekly and  through coverage and design, we ensure that all pupils are exposed to high-quality Physical Education whereby they can develop fundamental skills and competence to excel in a wide range of sporting activities and competitive sport by providing a broad and balanced PE curriculum. Our teaching will equip children with opportunities to develop their physical literacy and will allow pupils to learn about themselves, the importance of a healthy lifestyle, self-expression and concepts such as fair play and respect. It also contributes to the development of a range of important cognitive skills such as decision-making and analysis, and social skills such as teamwork and communication which the children can take with them throughout their lives. Topics are sequenced so that both upper and lower school are taking part in similar activities at the same time throughout the year. Each topic has a planned, purposeful assessment task at the end of the unit which allows children to showcase their learning.
As well as this, children are able to showcase their skills through a busy extra-curricular timetable and a range of Knowsley School Sport Partnership competitions. By providing opportunities to compete in sport and other physical activities, our children build character which helps to develop and embed values such as fairness and respect, whilst understanding the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.
